When we talk about Pigmentation, we are not talking about a sweet smattering of freckles, but bigger, uneven brown patches on not only the face, but hands, décolletage and shoulder areas. It is these ageing dark spots that are known as pigmentation, they are caused by sun exposure and specifically UVA rays, which penetrate deep into your skin and cause ageing.
Skin pigmentation disorders affect the colour of your skin. Your skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy, it affects your melanin production. Pigmentation or age spots are normally caused by long term sun damage, but occasionally can be caused by bruising, which leaves behind pigment from the blood. Age spots can appear on any part of the body that is exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, arms, and back.
